Client – To integrate their children’s coding app in the advanced Scandinavian educational system, codeSpark needed to translate their app and reference materials from English to Swedish. They were also approached by Apple to provide content in Swedish for the Everyone Can Code initiative.
Collaboration – The company needed a language service provider (LSP) they could trust with accurate translations carried out by humans and as we provide services with no machine/AI intervention, it was a win-win situation!
Our Approach – After thoroughly studying the app and carefully considering our resources, we selected a Swedish language expert with a technical background to complete the project.
Located in Pasadena, California, codeSpark’s mission is to make computer science education accessible to kids aged 4-9 through their word free programming platform. codeSpark is available on Apple and Android mobile devices, desktops, tablets, and Amazon Kindle. The app is available as a paid subscription service for home use and is free for public schools, non-profit organisations, and libraries all around the world.
codeSpark’s Challenges
- Other LSPs did not accept their preferred file format (.json files) which caused delays in the workflow
- The content came across as unnatural as it was translated by machines and only proofread by humans
- Previous LSPs delivered culturally irrelevant content for the target audience
Our Solutions
- Worked directly with .json files, so new strings did not need to be uploaded each time the content changed
- Followed an end-to-end ISO 9000:2015 certified process for quality, with no machine intervention
- Translated content maintained an educational tone and was localised for native Swedish users
