Such a misunderstanding could cause a grave problem in a customer-brand relationship.<\/p><p>\u201cWhen a brand is trying to penetrate new geography, it becomes almost impossible to break through the clutter of language issues and lack of mutual understanding. Multilingual speakers can cement the communication gaps to make both sides feel more connected to each other and be able to communicate effectively about the demands, challenges, products, and solutions,\u201d says Gargi Rajan, head HR of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mettl.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Mercer (Mettl)<\/a>.<\/p><p>For Carsten Schaefer, the founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/usetrust.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Trust<\/a>, a multilingual employee helped his company avoid an embarrassing mistake. \u201cA while ago we wanted to launch a new feature for our app, and I thought the name was good. Then my Serbian team member stepped in and said that it\u2019s a pretty bad curse word in their language, so we dropped it,\u201d says Carsten.<\/p><p>At times, it\u2019s not possible for you to learn your clients\u2019 or customers\u2019 language. In such cases, you must find a common touch point \u2013 like food, culture, customs, etc. \u2013 to build a rapport. \u201cOnce, I was in a conversation with a client who was originally from Mexico. He happened to mention popular Spanish dishes (Escalivada and Mixed Paella) and to his disappointment, I didn\u2019t know what he was talking about.
